Press Release

Do you believe the Biblical truth that the Sins of Fathers are visited upon the Children?  Does abuse and chemical dependency seem to continue in families from generation to generation?  If you’ve answered yes to these questions, then you must read the Rubies Family Saga. In Rubies we see the revelation of how these tragedies can follow our own descendants and how we can defeat them to find a new path for future generations.
Rubies is based on the life story of a Norwegian emigrant, Kaja Ericsen. Read her story in the Rubies Family Saga, as it is a portrait of American heritage mingled with a provocative story of deceit and tragedy. The four-book series proves that fact true is stranger than fiction
Minneapolis, MN October 2017

In our society today, a great deal of attention is focused on people of other countries seeking a new life in America.

This truth is evidenced by the fact that all Americans have a generational lineage to the emigrants of old who sought a new beginning in a land of freedom and prosperity. The Midwest is populated by the Olson’s, the Anderson’s, and the Johnson’s who came to America as the Ostman's, the Svenson's, the Tveter's. Names were changed but people remain the same.

In the newest fiction publication, Rubies Family Saga, we find all the heritage of times gone by. The Rubies is a four-book series tracing the life of a Norwegian Emigrant family from 1913 to 1992.

“I truly believe that all fiction begins in real life. Most fiction books are based on real life characters whose stories are told through creative fiction as they are too strange to be believable.  Fact is most often stranger than fiction.”  Sandra Joy Eastman

The four-book series Rubies Family Saga was first published on Amazon from July of 2014 and then revised in July of 2017. All four books are available in paperback and kindle versions. Link below goes directly to the author’s page on Amazon.com where you will see all the books in the series.

Rubies Family Saga

The story takes place in the Midwest, from the North Dakota plains, to the charming tourist city of Brainerd to the shores of Historic Duluth, bringing all the history of the era while showing us that the past can become the present whether it is 1913 or 2015.

The women in Rubies are caught in a web of deceit and tragedy convinced they are victims of some mysterious curse –  a curse that has destroyed all their lives.    As the

saga continues over the four-book series, we learn the secret of the mysterious curse is a tragedy of sin that continues to follow from generation to generation.

Rubies author, Sandra Eastman, was born in Brainerd, Minnesota, and spent a great part of her life in Historic Duluth. Rubies character, Kaja Ericsen, is based upon her own grandmother’s journey to America in 1913.

Sandra has dubbed herself as the Work at Home Grandma as her story is unique.

Although she had been published since 1994, Sandra continued to work the 9 to 5 grind to pay the bills while actively pursuing a writing career.

She was given a jolt of reality when she faced a medical crisis which brought new perspective to her life in a rapid fashion. She realized she was becoming a person she didn’t admire and short changing the biggest part of her heart --- her beautiful grandchildren. Those three little girls needed a grandmother to be an active part of their lives and not someone too busy to have time for them. Sandra decided to pursue the publication of her novel that she had written in 1992. The story was based on her own grandmother’s journey to America in 1913. Kaja Ericsen left her two children in Norway fully intending to return for them one day. She died before fulfilling her dream.  Sandra decided she would not let her own dream pass her by.

Rubies is the perfect book for anyone seeking to find resolution to their life history and what propels them to become the people they are today. The women in Rubies discover a great secret on their journey of self-acceptance and unconditional love. It is a journey we all need to take for fulfillment in our own life.

Long Synopsis:

When a fine gemstone is shattered in a million pieces, its brilliance no longer glistens in the sunlight as the only remains are the remnants of the jewel broken and left with jagged edges. In the Rubies Family Saga, a single deathbed curse follows the lives of four generations of women truly proving the sins of the fathers are visited upon the children.  Four women struggle to escape the consequences of a curse that has slowly destroyed their lives.

Rubies Family Saga is about four women, Kaja, Marty, Katherine, and Stacey, desperately caught in a web of deceit and tragedy. Stacey has convinced herself that she and all the women in her family are victims of some mysterious curse – a curse that has destroyed all their lives.

As her sanity crumbles after the death of her sister, Stacey seeks the help of psychiatrist, Gregg Phillips.  Together they journey back in time using a unique method of hypnosis.  As Stacey’s story

unfolds we begin to realize the impact of sin and the consequences that can destroy of the lives of everyone in its path.

The idea for Rubies Family Saga came to me when searching for the truth about my own grandmother’s journey from Norway to America in 1913. Most of the story is centered around rural North Dakota and Duluth, Minnesota.

Kaja Ericsen was a real person who sacrificed her life with her children to find a new beginning in America. She left behind her two beautiful daughters, fully intending to return for them one day. When Kaja’s life becomes a threshold of bitterness and uncertainty, she becomes convinced that she and all her generations have fallen victim to a mysterious curse. She dies a bitter and disappointed woman never able to realize her dream of returning to Norway and never sees her daughters again.

Her own belief that she is a cursed woman is handed down to her daughter Marty who continues the chain of sorrow as she walks The Widening Road – Book Two in Rubies Family Saga. Marty’s decision of blatant disobedience almost destroys her youngest daughter’s life and leaves her abandoned by her husband; alone and penniless. Marty receives a wonderful gift only to have it overshadowed by the death of a loved one; her daughters, Katherine and Stacey, persist in their belief for a better life.

In Rubies – Book Three- Sins of the Mothers, Stacey and Katherine remain determined to change their lives for the better yet they are obsessed with the mistakes of the previous generation. They fight the battle to change the outcome of the curse that has been inflicted upon them. As they face the death of the man that destroyed their family, the two sisters struggle to reconcile their feelings that flow between remove, regret, and vengeance.  The Rubies curse continues to choke life from the good and leave behind the shadow of uncertainty.

The conclusion of Rubies – Book Four – Saying Goodbye becomes the provocative ending that demonstratives the truth that change is inevitable. There is only one constant that guides these women to overcome the curse they have believed in all their lives. Reading the Rubies Family Saga will open your heart and mind to share in the discovery of unconditional love and how that love gives us all an acceptance of the past and a hope for future generations.

Debbie Buhrz of Virginia Beach says of Rubies: “I just read book one of Rubies – OMG! It was amazing. Can’t wait to read them all.”

Points of Interest about the Book’s Content or Story:

What really determines domestic abuse? Is it just physical battering or the chipping away at the sanity of the abused or both?

Do we really have to be satisfied with the hand we have been dealt in life or can we change the outcome?

Is suicide an open blatant end of life or can it be the gradual destruction of the body and mind?

Do our personal choices really affect the lives of those around us and impact future generations?
