America has just made a fatal mistake

This past week marked fourteen years since that fateful date on September 11, 2001 or better known as 911.  It was and is a day that will be remembered by all of us.  Even if we didn’t lose a loved one we lost a bit of our security and the stability of our nation.

On September 11, 2009, I lost a precious part of my life.  My little dog of eleven years old died suddenly without a bit of warning.  I was devastated that night and to this day I mourn her loss every 911 that comes around.  I now have a new little dog but he will never completely replace my Midnight as thoughts of her death still bring fresh tears to my eyes.  I can’t even imagine the pain and suffering of those who lost an irreplaceable loved one that terrible day.  Every year they mourn and every year we as Americans become more complacent; more removed from the horror of it all.

My daughter is a flight attendant so the day is particularly poignant for her. As we watched the replay  together the other night, it was like it was all happening again.

Once again, we felt the pain of that day with all our heart and soul.   As Americans we should make a point to watch the replay yearly of this worst nightmare of our nation’s history. We need to watch it and remember the horror of that day.

It was a wake-up call for the United States and now we have hit the snooze button and gone back to sleep.  Our slumber, I fear, will cost us dearly.

Mark 13:35-36

“Therefore stay awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning— lest he come suddenly and find you asleep.”

Today we go about our lives ignoring  the signs and warnings God is sending our way.  Natural disasters are wreaking havoc on our food supply but we haven’t felt its reality yet.  But we will.  All the immorality and disobedience of God’s laws go unabated in our daily lives; but when will God call in his marker? When will he say “enough is enough”?

For many years God has blessed America for her charity to others; for her spreading of the gospel; and for her allegiance to him.  That allegiance has ended as we have become a nation of self-indulgence and “political correctness” that is destroying us from within.

God’s law continues to be torn asunder with little thought of the consequences to follow.  In this country alone we kill a million unborn children every year and yet the incidence of abortion due to rape or incest is less than 1%.  What does this say about our nation?  We continue to ignore immorality by glorifying those who choose to alter their sexual orientation or choose a lifestyle that is against God’s laws.  How then can we continue to justify our place under God’s protection?

Now we have chosen to commit the most egregious error by signing an agreement with Iran that will allow them to prosper and have a nuclear weapon within the next few years. That choice most certainly will endanger our closest ally, Israel.

When we turn our back on Israel will God not turn this back from us? It’s a frightening proposition that even as we tout ourselves as a Christian nation founded in Judeo-Christian principles we have become as lukewarm Christians. When will God say to America: “I will spew you out of my mouth”?

Matthew 5:13

“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.”

It’s true that many people today doubt the existence of God and his creation of the universe around us.  Consider that our little solar system is just one of trillions in the universe.  There are up to 400 stars in Milky Way galaxy alone and yet there are as many as 150 other galaxies in the known universe.  That is incredibly daunting and almost incomprehensible to the human mind.  There are thousands of scientific theories as to how all this and mankind came to be.  So we have to ask the question: what is planet earth all about in the entire spectrum of things?

I cannot end this article without pointing out the words of astronaut Gene Cernan, the last man to walk on the moon.

He said, “What I saw as I looked at the earth from the moon was that it was all too beautiful to have happened by accident.  This could not have been the result of two dust particles coming together.  I wanted to grab that crescent Earth, put it in my spacesuit and take it home and show it to people.  Looking up at the Earth, I had the sense that I was sitting on God’s front porch.”
